We needed a place to place our podcasts and videocasts where everyone could find them. This should do for now. Enjoy!
Every action deserves a soundtrack. Today is one of those rainy dayz that leaves me feeling kind of empty. But not in a bad way. Empty in the zen way. Totally in the present moment. While doing my duty of looking through thousands of cds to find what might make a good review or feature I came across an extra copy of “Dimensional Maze” by The Metapuffs. They have a trippy kind of backwards to the future alternative rock thing going on. Anywho, this Chicago based trio stuck out in my mind and for some reason played multiple times in my player. Especially the track ‘Meanie Operator’.
This week, we begin with a brief visit to Pandora:

“ Avatar” (***1/2)
We’ll make this quick: James Cameron’s award-winning, money- making, science fiction epic comes to DVD this week, but advance review copies were unavailable for a report on the bonus materials.
Rated PG-13, 162 minutes
44 inch Chest” (**1/2)
The writers of “Sexy Beast” also scripted this talky British gangster flick, obviously hoping to re-capture some of the same black humor found in that enjoyable hit. A few of the same talented character actors also reunite, such as Ray Winstone as Colin Diamond, the cuckolded husband whose brutal buddies gather to help their friend find revenge on the man entangled with Colin’s wife (Joanne Whalley). Ian McShane (forever Al Swearingen on “Deadwood”) appears against-type as a soft-spoken gay gangster more interested in his next sexual conquest than in any kind of revenge. Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Dillane and John Hurt round out the quick-witted mob.
Rated R, 95 minutes. The DVD, also on Blu-ray, offers director’s commentary, a 15 minute “making of” featurette, a 23 minute interview with the director, and four epilogues delivered from four characters.

*Don’t forget to check Menomena out tonight on Jimmy Fallon. Okay we’ll step off their jocks now…right after we post this*
Review By: Ric Hickey
Now in their tenth year, Menomena’s new release is the culmination of an amazing decade by any standard. Based out of Portland, Oregon, Menomena’s accomplishments include countless critical accolades and even a Grammy nomination for “Best Recording Package” for their 2007 release Friend And Foe. Having scored film music and collaborated with modern dance troupes in addition to a busy touring and recording schedule, it is clear that there is much more to Menomena than what one might expect from even the most ambitious Art Rock ensemble. It is their monumental sense of ambition that puts Menomena ahead of the pack in their creative endeavors, but it is their phenomenal music that is sure to continue garnering loads of acclaim for them.
Mines, the band’s new CD, is fairly exploding with diverse emotions and arrangements that seem geared to reveal surprises around every corner. Yet the record holds together with an uncanny cohesiveness. This achievement is all the more amazing when you think of how that accomplishment eludes many of even the most experienced bands when their primary goal is to craft something cohesive.
