Alvin Haynes Jr.

Background:
Born and raised in Houston Texas, by way of New York/Barbados/Rio deJjanero, but currently living in the DFW attending the University of Texas at
Dallas pusuing an arts and humanities degree w/ a focus in digital photography. I have experience in painting, printmaking (screenprinting), also color and digital photography (some b&w). I specialize however in photo-based art. Whether the final product is a print or a painting, it stems from a photograph. I have played soccer for 14 years, and I am a big fan. This explains the bulk of my recent work as it has been shots of different soccer venues in the Dallas and Houston area in a panoramic style. The sport itself is not what I am trying to address because I do shoot at baseball events and some volleyball games an even in the car. My empahasis is more on the realationship between the viewer and what is being viewed.
Artist Statement:
My recent work has been a form of portraiture at sporting events exploring the role of a spectator. I am attempting to highlight in a creative and interesting way the fact that we as humans are always being watched by someone somewhere,
and it is in each individual's best interest to do their best at
whatever it is they may be pursuing. Professional sports are
a
perfect example of this because we pay athletes millions of dollars to watch them perform to their potential. We flock to stadiums, ball parks, and arenas to watch and be apart of the spectacle we help create.
You can also view some of my work at the Courtyard Theater in Downtown Plano, TX. It is a student show dealing with
identity, and will be up until the 18th of November.
You can catch more of Alvin's work in a fall art festival at the UTD towards the end of November.
