UTM - "Project Vibe, If you were stranded on a deserted
island and you could make a dream mixtape to spend your
lonely, hungry and cold days and nights with...who would
be on it?"
- Taja Sevelle - Love Is ontagious (I remember hearing
this song as a kid and instantly fell in love with
it... and Taja! It has that summertime on a beach escapism
type feel to it.)
- Omar - Golden Brown (Omar being my all time favorite
artist, and having a reputation for breaking boundaries
and effortlessly fusing styles and genres, this song
right here represents that quality of his work.)
- Blue Six - Music and Wine (The first time I heard
House, I heard Blue Six. Music and Wine, what could
be better?)
- Peven Everett - Gabrielle (I first heard this song
during an Alvin Ailey performance several years ago...
Looked at the program to find out who this "Gabrielle" song
was from. It read Peven Everett & Roy Davis Jr.
Suffice it to say I've been a Peven Everett fan ever
since.)
- Tonex - Honestly (Tonex... yeah the Gospel singer...
that Tonex. During his stint away from recording gospel
music, he headed off to London to record his "secular" album
entitled "The London Letters". It's one of
the dopest Jazz/Soul Cds I've ever heard. Not that
I identify with the song personally, but I like the
song mainly because he took a brave step and explored
what it was like to... well listen and hear for yourself.
lol )
- Caron Wheeler - Light As A Feather (Beautiful song.
I love Caron Wheeler!)
- Fertile Ground - Star People (This song... I can't
explain why I love this song so much... I just do.
Navasha Daya has one of the most amazing voices I've
ever heard.)
- Blaze - World Peace (I emailed our good friend George
Bush this song... Somehow I don't think he got around
to listening to it yet.)
- Dwele - Slide Out (I could think of a number of
Dwele joints to put here... but I chose Slide Out because
this was the raw Dwele...before he got signed. If you
can get your hands on his R.I.Z.E. demo CD... cop that!)
- Souls Of Mischief - Medicate (This beat is soooo
sick... and the lyrics were razor sharp. Really makes
me miss Hip Hop. These cats kept things lighthearted
and FUN. I'm down with the Hieroglyphics crew for life!)
